One of the oldest retail stores in downtown Mariettacelebrating it's 90th anniversary this October.
Baker & Baker is a family tradition in downtown Marietta with roots dating back to 1866, when Walter A. and cousin Henry H. Baker purchased the jewelry store from L. L. Penninghaus, thus continuing without a break in business for 140 years. The partners became Walter and son Norman in 1940, then Norman and the late Gertrude, in 1958 and currently, Larry and Nancy Hall, owners and associates since 1974.
With a history dating back to a time when it became acceptable, and even popular for men and women, who weren't devout Catholics to wear cross necklaces. Baker and Baker has seen every trend in the jewelry industry sincepierced ears in 50's; the gold bead necklace, otherwise known as the "nothing necklace" in the 70's and now body piercing.
